What we do

If the truck sits low, leans to one side, or sags under load, the leaf packs are the first place to look. We have been building and repairing springs on the West Penn Pike since 1941 — local fire trucks and municipal dump trucks included — and every pack leaves the shop re-arched, re-bushed and torqued to spec.

Leaf Spring Repair

A tired pack does not always mean a new spring. We re-arch the leaves back to their original height, press in new bushings and fit new pins and shackles, and the ride comes back for a fraction of the cost of replacement. Most packs that come in here are worth saving.

Leaf Spring Replacement

When a pack is cracked, flattened or past re-arching, it gets replaced. Springs are built in this shop, so the truck is not sitting in the yard waiting on a part to ship. New U-bolts go on with it and everything comes back torqued to spec.

Add-a-Leaf

If the truck squats under load but the pack is otherwise sound, an add-a-leaf stiffens it without a full replacement. It is the cheap way to carry more weight, and it stops the pack breaking from being worked past what it was built for.

Custom Leaf Springs Built In House

We have been making springs on the West Penn Pike since 1941. When the original is not worth saving, or nobody stocks it any more, the pack gets built here to your truck's spec — length, arch, leaf count and eye type. Older and odd trucks are the reason this shop still has the equipment to do it.

Common questions

Leaf Springs questions, answered

Can a leaf spring be repaired, or does the whole pack have to be replaced?

Most of the time it can be repaired. A fatigued pack gets re-arched back to height with new bushings, pins and shackles. Replacement is for packs that are cracked, flattened or past what re-arching will bring back — and we will tell you honestly which one you are looking at.

Do you build leaf springs, or only install them?

We build them. Packs are made in this shop to the truck's spec, which is why an odd or older truck does not have to wait on a part that nobody stocks any more.

How do I know the leaf springs are the problem?

The usual signs are a truck that sits low or leans to one side, sags under load, or clunks from the spring seats over bumps. Cracked, flattened or shifted leaves are the giveaway once it is up on the rack.

What kind of trucks do you work on?

Triaxles, dumps, mixers, packers, fire apparatus and school fleets — local fire trucks and municipal dump trucks included. If it is heavy and it runs on springs, it has probably been in here.

Do I need an appointment?

Walk-ins are welcome. Pull in off the Penn Pike at 1050 West Penn Pike, Tamaqua — the shop is open Monday to Friday, 7:00 to 4:30, and most inspections happen while you wait.

What does a leaf spring job cost?

It depends on the truck and on whether the pack can be re-arched or has to be replaced, so no honest shop quotes it blind. Send the symptom and the truck through the quote form or call (570) 386-4195 and you get back what it needs and what it costs.
